Well, I did it!!  Grin

Just pulled the trigger on a Birdsong Cortobass.  The 50% down payment was just sent by PayPal.

If I'm lucky maybe by Christmas!

Well congrats Mean Bone. I would imagine the anticipation has already began to set in.
I know if it were me I would probably already be pacing the floor like an expecting father in the waiting room of the hospital.  Cheesy
It always make's me happy to see someone get something they really do want so right now I am very happy for you.  Grin

Welcome to the family, brother...  I love 8C-117 more and more every time I play it.  It is such an incredible leap beyond my other basses in sound and feel... I really thought my older solid body sounded pretty good.  But the Corto just blows it away.  You will NOT be disappointed!

Basses do not "gently weep"... they will rattle the walls, lay the foundation, soothe the body and the mind, or bellow in fury as they strike you down with a bat'leth, but they do not "gently weep"...

Fairly basic Cortobass:

- Two pickups
- Blackwashed mahogany
- Extreme upper fret cutout
- Black hardware
- Wood thumbrest from same mahogany plank
- Flat wound strings

Oh, and I ordered two hats, one of each color which he said he'd go ahead and ship.  Just something to help ease the anticipation (probably make it worse!).

Of course, I would order one just before their FULL BLOOMIN' MONTH OF AUGUST vacation . . .

. . . at least the process is started!

rfclef, I noticed from your other posts you had ordered yours in December and it got to you in June, so I'm thinking Christmas may be optimistic.

Please tell me they had to order some wood from Mars and that accounted for the delay!

Well, I did have special wood, but I think he already had it... just had a line to get through...  I ordered just before his break, so was bout 6 months of wait from order to my first touch.  Good luck...

And,t hough my bass is the most awesome ever, I am sure yours will be great too... Wink

Well, the hats did absolutely nothing to ease the anticipation . . . and now, THIS!

I asked Birdsong if they could possibly send me a picture of the wood selected for the body before they shutdown for August so it's my fault, I guess.  As you can tell this will be the front of the body.  The knot will be removed as it'll be reamed out for the neck.  I decided to go with the standard mahogany but asked for something other than straight grain.  They delivered!

. . . and as the next picture shows the back will be beautiful, too!

I shouldn't have asked for the pictures . . . oooooh, the anticipation.

Finally, the first picture is up on Birdsong's client page . . .

rfclef, you know what I'm going through.

Text at Birdsong:
8C-144 Just into finishing - this already is a wild blackwash, with strong golds & reds in the Mahogany that will become very 3D as we go! This is from the same plank as S31 - wild Honduran Mahogany.
