More specifically, does the group of musicians you play at church with have a name? I think I have read most of the threads on the board, and don't recall seeing this question.

In our church all groups do:

Testify! - the "worship team/praise team". The generic WT/PT moniker is much loathed by all, and avoided wherever possible. Usually opens the service every week with 3-4 songs, along with a feature about once a month.

Chancel Choir -the traditional choir. Usually performs weekly. Lead the hymns, and an anthem a couple time a month. Major works (cantatas) for holidays.

Sonday Kids - the Sunday school kids (pre-K to 4th grade) sing every couple months as they learn new songs.

Brunswick Brass - the brass ensemble, that plays whenever we are asked or want to.

Heavenly Hands - youth performance ministry (grade 5 and up). Puppets, skits, black light work, and a lot of fun. Performs about once a quarter.

We are all part of the overall ministry of the church, through the performing arts; having a distinctive name and identity helps focus the mission of each group, and builds ownership and commitment. Esprit de corps. With the hopes of being able to take some of these ensembles out to the community, an existing identity is very beneficial.

So, do your groups do this? Tell me about it!

Our group at church does not have a name. In fact there are 3 groups at our church and I dont think any of them have a name other then The Worship Band or The Praise Team.

I think I am going to mention to our WL that we need a name.

It's a shame both names are taken;  but I like the idea of the "first" and "last"

Genesis     (aka Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, etc)

and

Revelation     (already a Gospel Choir in the UK)

never mind  Smiley

chrisfbass,

You have a good name right there: The Genesis Revelation.  Cool Don;t know if it is taken, but it could be cool.

JohnH,

That's kind of odd, but I'm glad it works for you!  Cheesy

When I joined the group in September of 92, it was just known as the praise band.

A few years ago however, we felt we should have some kind of identity.  We are now known as "The Celebration Singers".

My friends and I coined the name "Instant Noodles", because we were so frequently asked to 'noodle' a little tune here and there at church, between announcements and the like...

Form Follows Function...

If you wear bow ties, you can be Bow Tie Pasta!
If you dance in circles while you play, you can be Rotelle!

Gastronomically endless possibilities.

Excuse me. I'm going to get some lunch now.  Grin

Versatek6 --I'm pretty sure there is a four pun limit per thread.  You are in danger of being cited for "punning relentlessly and unfortunate use of the wit granted you by Providence."  Thought you might appreciate early notice  Cheesy

We don't have a name, but some in the congregation seem to think we do.  Usually refer to us as "Hay Kdj U Turnip Down."  At least that's what they seem to be saying.  Pretty loud in there.  Not sure why they think that's our name, but it seems to be a pretty universal misunderstanding.

So noted, and ignored with all due respect.  Tongue

God loves humor. That's why there is Australia.

Whomever said a pun is the lowest form of humor is not familiar with Al Franken...

Is that Moravian? I thought they specialized in trombone?
